Water meters

The reading round

Utilities, Meter readings is built for a phone in the caretaker's hand. Pick the month and walk the round in the order the meters were set up. For each meter press Read, type the reading and take a photo if you can (it helps settle disputes, but a reading is never blocked without one).

The sheet shows the arithmetic as you type: last reading, new reading, and the water used. Maskani flags a reading for a second look when:

  • it is lower than the last reading,
  • an occupied unit used nothing,
  • the use is more than three times the meter's usual.

Clean readings can be accepted together with Accept clean. Flagged ones are accepted one by one or sent back with Recheck. A meter that could not be read can be estimated at its three month average.

Bulk supply and boreholes

Bulk and borehole meters sit on the same round. If you keep them on a sheet, your office can send a whole month at once through the batch readings import, which checks each line the same way.

Replacing a meter

When a meter is changed, press the replace button on its row. Enter the old meter's closing reading and the new meter's number and opening reading. Maskani closes the old meter, opens the new one in its place (same unit, same order on the round, same charge) and bills the month as the old meter's last stretch plus the new meter's use. The bill note shows both readings.

Water balance

Utilities, Water balance compares what came in from the bulk supply and borehole with what was billed to units each month. A gap bigger than your alert level in settings usually means a leak or an unmetered connection.
